This website exists to explore the potential of listening and connecting with natural sounds, both novel—like the use of soil microphones—and more general, with different intents.

My name is Douwe-Jan Schrale. I am a

poet, science and nature educator, and a maker of audio and visual art.
I have a background in cultural heritage with an environmental perspective, which makes me deeply aware of the loss of nature and its connection to culture. This site is an attempt to bring those two together through sound.
